Hellenic General Insurance Company
The ETHNIKI Hellenic General Insurance Company, founded in 1891, is the largest insurance company in Greece with over 15% of the total insurance market and approximately 25% of the group life, health, disability, and pension market. Most of the ETHNIKI’s branches, including the Group Insurance Division, have achieved ISO 9002 certification and comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The ETHNIKI was the first Hellenic insurance company to be certified according to ISO protocols. The ETHNIKI was also the first insurer in Greece to offer a Deposit Administration pension fund contract.
The ETHNIKI’s head office is located in Athens with 43 branches throughout the country, and it employs an experienced and knowledgeable staff of 1,248 people and over 5,000 field agents. The principal shareholder of the ETHNIKI is the National Bank of Greece, the country’s largest bank and a major international financial institution.
The ETHNIKI has total assets of EUR 2.25 billion (USD 3.01 billion), total income of EUR 800 million (USD 1.072 billion), and an annual premium volume of EUR 724 million (USD 970 million). Premium volume for group business is EUR 169 million (USD 226 million). The ETHNIKI retains 95% of its group business on an annual basis.
